To Believe

: to consider to be true or honest

: to accept the word or evidence of

: as in to accept

: be persuaded

Did you know that the gospel of John is the only book that was written for nonbelievers?

It is a book written for nonbelievers to become believers.

The apostle John stated his purpose for writing his book in chapter 20:30-31.

30 And truly Jesus did many other signs (miracles) in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book; 31 but these are written that

you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.

Did you know that the word believe is used 229 time in the new testament NKJV?

Did you know you will find the word believe in John’s gospel 86 times or almost 40% of the entire new testament?

In John’s writing, Jesus uses the word “believe” in referencing His promise of eternal life simply by believing in Him for that promise?

Can Jesus state it any clearer?

JN 3:36  "The one who believes in the Son has eternal life; but the one who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”

JN 6:47 "Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me has everlasting life."

In the following single verse, Jesus uses present, future, and past tense when describing His promise of eternal life to those who simply believe in Him.

JN 5:24  “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment,

but has passed from death into life.

We see Jesus connecting the resurrection with eternal life.

JN 11:25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.  26 And whoever lives and believes in me shall never die.  Do you believe this""

In the famous conversation between Jesus and Nicodemus in John chapter 3, Jesus tells Nicodemus that no one will see the kingdom of God unless

he is born again.  This is the only mention of the New Birth by Jesus in the four Gospels.  Jesus sums this conversation up with the most famous

bible verse of all.

JN 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
