When we accept Jesus’ invitation of eternal life simply by believing in Him for that promise, that free gift becomes a present possession.  It is everlasting.  It is never-ending.  IT IS ETERNAL!

It can not be lost or taken back and we see this in the book of Romans 11:29 For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.

We are now children of God.

John 1: 12-13  But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: 13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

However, Jesus isn’t through with us yet.

After believing in Jesus for His promise of Eternal Life, He now invites us to become HIS disciple.

John 8:30-32  As He spoke these words, many believed in Him.  31 Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him,

“If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. 32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

When studying the four gospels of Jesus, we soon recognize that John’s writing is much different than the other three gospels.  Matthew, Mark, and Luke are referred to as the synoptic gospels.  And unlike the gospel of John, are manuals for discipleship.  We look at the gospel of Matthew as the “flagship” of these three synoptic gospels.  Synoptic meaning; Relating to or being the first three gospels of the New Testament, which share content, style, and order of events and which differ largely from John.
